The Coast Forest Conservation Initiative Society (CFCI) is seeking Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) group certification for their members’ operations in the Mid-Coast TSA. The CFCI is made up of International Forest Products (Interfor), Western Forest Products (WFP), BC Timber Sales (BCTS), Catalyst Paper and Canadian Forest Products (Canfor). The SmartWood Program of the Rainforest Alliance will conduct an assessment between October 15 and November 14, 2008 of the operations of CFCI group members (Interfor and WFP and their contractors, and licenses awarded by BCTS) in the Mid-Coast TSA and nearby communities. The purpose of the assessment is to determine if the management of these forest lands by the CFCI Group can be certified as meeting the requirements of the Forest Stewardship Council. (MPI). Buchanan Forest Products Ltd. (BFPL) is the forest manager on behalf of MPI; they carry out forest management and planning on the forest. The forest is located in Northeastern Ontario near Lake Superior and the towns of Manitouwadge and Marathon.

Westwind Forest Stewardship inc. has appointed SGS QUALIFOR to carry out an evaluation of the management of the French Severn Forest with a view to seeking the re-certification against the requirements of the Forest Stewardship Council Principles and Criteria (FSC P&C). SGS QUALIFOR plans to carry out the evaluation during 23 to 27 Octobre 2006. A stakeholder consultation is organized as part of the re-certification process. Notification of Pending FSC Certification Evaluation of Sudbury Forest: The Vermillion Forest Management Company (VFM) is seeking Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) endorsed certification of its Sustainable Forest License (SFL) on the Sudbury Forest in Ontario. This notice is to inform you that a certification assessment will be conducted beginning October 25, 2005. The Sudbury Forest is approximately 1.1 million ha located near the city of Sudbury, Ontario. It is made up of a transitional forest type that straddles the Boreal forest to the north and the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence mixed-wood forests and agricultural areas to the south. Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), a FSC-accredited certification body based in Emeryville, California, will conduct this FSC certification assessment.
