March 30,2008, Toronto, Ontario- The FSC Xpert™ program and Print Demonstration and Swatch Book have both won 2008 OVATION Awards from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) of Toronto.
The FSC Xpert™ program received the Award of Merit for how well the program was conceived, executed and its originality. Traffic Marketing + Design Inc. of Toronto, received the Award of Excellence in Publication Design for the swatchbook, designed by Bernard Hellen, R.G.D. (FSC Xpert™, CAN-001), received the Award of Excellence, with commendations for the quality of the printing and creativity. These awards follow on the heals of Antony Marcil, President and C.E.O., FSC Canada being presented with PrintAction’s prestigious ‘Environmental Innovator’ award in February 2008.
The FSC Xpert™ program is an educational program and designation for individuals that are committed to responsible forest management, and who have the knowledge and skills to successfully source and manage projects that use FSC-certified paper. From October 2007 to January 2008 the FSC Xpert™ program has been in a 'pioneer' or start-up phase. During this time, participants have been providing feedback, which is being incorporated into a new and interactive eLearning Site that will be launched shortly. [Source: Terra Choice] Ottawa, Ontario- According to a study by TerraChoice called the ‘Six Sins of Greenwashing’, FSC-certified paper towels manufactured by Cascades Inc. is the only real ‘green’ consumer products on the market.
The study found that of 1,018 common consumer products ranging from toothpaste to caulking to shampoo to printers, randomly surveyed for the study, 99% were guilty of “greenwashing.” Audited to FSC’s standards, Cascades Inc.’s paper towels are independently verified to contain exactly what the FSC label states, 100% post consumer recycled material.
Sales of Cascades-branded paper products grew 60 per cent last year, reflecting a similar increase in sales of FSC-certified products among other paper manufacturers.

FSC Canada is beginning the process of reviewing and, where necessary, revising the National Boreal Standard, which was accredited in August 2004. As a first step in that process FSC Canada has posted a Framework of a Work Plan for the revision process, with an opportunity for people to review and comment on the framework. The framework is available at /borealstandardrevision.htm
Comments received by April 30 2008 will contribute towards the refinement of this work plan before being finalized by the FSC Canada Board. Questions or comments on the revision process can be sent to boreal@fsccanada.org.
March 25, 2008, Bonn, Germany - FSC International has put out a call for nominations for the 2008 election of three new members to the FSC Board of Directors to fill the Southern Environmental, Northern Environmental, and Northern Social seats. The FSC International Board of Directors is made up of 9 representatives. There are three representatives from each of three chambers: environmental, social and economic. Amongst these 9 members there is equal representation of the Northern and Southern hemispheres by alternating annually between a five representative versus four representative division. Board members Chris van der Goot's (Social 'Northern' chamber), Eric Palola's (Environmental ‘Northern’ chamber), and Cristian Vallejos's (Environmental 'Southern' chamber) term will be ending at the end of 2008. Candidates are requested to forward their nominations to the FSC Secretariat by May 2nd, 2008.
